Hello my friends,
Hope you are having a happy new year so far!! Wow what a long time without an official update so let's get right to it...

I'M COMING TO NYC!!
I wanted to write a quick note to let you know I'm coming to NYC. I'll be doing a “meet & greet” book signing at MooShoes on Sat Feb 17th from 3-6pm. So please come down and say hello and I'll also help you find the perfect pair of shoes.

I'M COMING TO SYRACUSE!!
I will also be doing a cooking demo/lecture at Syracuse University on Tues Feb 20th for The Committee on Women and Art. The demo starts at 7pm sharp so don't be late: Room 500 in the Hall of Languages - Syracuse University

NO NEW BOOKS!!
No new books in the works… just taking some time to re-charge my creative batteries and work on different interests. I have been working mostly on my photography and it's been very satisfying to be creative in a different way then writing books. I'm enjoying myself immensely.

I hope to see some of you in NYC or at the Syracuse event. Please don't be shy to come up and say hi. I love meeting new people… so just come over and say hello.

My parents are in town as are my brother and nephew Eli. We went to Futaba for dinner tonight (my fav Japanese restaurant in Victoria).
I haven't seen my bro or Eli in over 2 years so it was good to hang out and have some fun. What a funny little monkey Eli is... :)

I'm doing lots of cooking today for my Step-Mum's birthday party tomorrow so I'm listening to some of my LP collection today. After watching this clip ... I knew today had to be a David Bowie day.
I used to be obsessed with David Bowie. Not the tanned, blonde hair, fancy suit, "Let's Dance" David Bowie but gender bending, f**ked up , f**cked teeth, anorexic David Bowie who was wonderfully weird and sang about Spiders from Mars. Wham bam thank you Mame!

Got a letter from an old family friend today and I just had to share.

"I have a very clear image of you at about five years old. We were on tour in Saskatchewan and were in a cafe. It was one of the days when your Father had a lapse of faith and had ordered a beef burger. He had lifted the burger to his mouth and as he sank his teeth into the meat you leaned across the table, looked him right in the eyes and sweetly said, "That cow had a Mother". Dog poop...

Gerry and I took Fergus on a nice long walk around Cedar Hill Golf Course today...

My question to you... my smart internet friends ... is why bother picking up your dogs poop with a plastic bag, if you're only going to then throw that plastic bag in the bush. It would actually just be better to leave the poop and let the rain disintegrate it since that Safeway bag you used isn't going to break down any time soon.

Dear Elvis...
Thank you for guiding us to find this fantastic apartment with a view of the ocean and downtown Victoria. It's polished concrete floors and exposed duct work makes us feel like the urban yuppies that we long to be.

But why Elvis? Why? Why doth thou smit us with party-hardy upstairs neighbors who listen to Pearl Jam and invite girls over with high heel shoes that clomp clomp clomp across their polished concrete floors as they giggle, hoot and holler with their manly jock friends.

I had to phone the police at 4:30am to make it stop. I don't understand it... this is such a civilized building yet this one apartment is party central and we are underneath it.

Can you do something about it for me? Thanks for listening.

art and tacos

On Gerry's day off we took Fergus to daycare and we spent the day wandering around to all the art galleries.

We hit Fan Tan Studio to see Stefan Thompson's show but they were closed. Bah. You may remember Stefan as the artist I commissioned to do some Fergus drawings. He's so fantastic.

Went to The On Canvas Gallery and then headed up the hill to The Victoria Art Gallery to see the Baroque exhibit. Oil paintings freak me out... sometimes they look more life like then photographs yet they were painted before cameras were invented.

From the gallery shop I purchased The Complete Writings of Emily Carr who I have recently become a big fan of. You can't live in BC and not bump into Emily Carrs work. I was always kind of blasé about her work until I went to a big exhibit that included reading some of her diaries. Man. She was a hoot! Funny, irreverent and such a feminist. She not only painted, but wrote amazing books, wore pants before woman were allowed to wear pants and lived with a monkey. My kind of lady.

Feeling a little peckish we went to Hernandez for tacos. Everyone has been raving to me about this place and I see why. 5 black bean tacos for $5! SHUT UP! They are soooo yum and everything is made from scratch.It's located in this weird dead mini-mall that joins Yates Street and View... it's one of those dead areas nobody every goes to... but since Hernandez moved in the place is jumping! It's located across from The Magazine House at 735 Yates.
So it's so gray out today that even when I opened every single blind in the house... I still had to turn on all my lights. Ugh. I need some sunshine. This weather is killing me. Maybe a walk on the beach with the Fur-gus will help.

Was standing outside Tattoo Zoo trying to send Jodi a text message when someone yelled "HEY VEGAN!" I looked up and saw a man drive by on his bicycle, waving frantically at me.

I have no idea who he was... but he got my attention.

Fergus had a little visit with Suzi the other day... those two love each other so much and spend most of their time together wrestling. It's crazy to watch... makes me dizzy.Wendy let me come into her house with my winter boots on... but only if I wore her "paper house booties". I think I've started a new fashion trend. Fergus was POOPED when he got home...

Blue Angel arrived

Remember when I was talking about the Blue Angel cd? Well it finally arrived today and man is it ever fun.

I also got a little weepy as I listened to it because my "music friend" who I used to talk non-stop about music with is no longer around. He passed away quite a few years ago... but every time I get a new cd he's the first person I want to contact to talk about it. He would have loved this cd...

I need a new music buddy.
