Clean clean clean...

Well. I handed in my manuscript!! Now it's off to the designer and I wait patiently to get my hands on the 1st rough edition to check the design and make any necessary edits. Eeek!

So I celebrated finishing the book by cleaning my fridge out (I'm wack-a-doo). Ahhhhh it feels good to clean out the fridge. Why do I love cleaning so much? It's completely and utterly satisfying. I also spring cleaned my entire house. Not just a clean-clean but I went through room by room, drawer by drawer and cleaned every single inch of the house. It took me 2 days! *laugh* I should start a cleaning service. :)

I also had a great visit this weekend with my parents this weekend. I love my parents. We sat around, shot the shit and ate a lot of good food.

Gerry and I went and saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall last night with our friends Stu and Sly and I have to say I was a little disappointed. It was "ok" but nothing like how the trailers made it out to be. I thought it was going to be an outrageous romantic comedy romp but instead it was romantic comedy - light with only a few laughs and a lot of uncomfortable scenes. Not uncomfortable in a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" sort of way ... but more like "I want to leave the room" kind of way.

Maybe my expectations were too high because the movie was written by and starred Jason Segel who I've been in love with since Freaks and Geeks and have enjoyed watching his career blossom ... Don't get me wrong, the movie was fun to watch but I think it's more of a 'renter'. Ooooh. Is that too harsh? Maybe not a renter but more of a $2 theater kind of movie. Ooooh. That sounds even harsher.

I also want to complain that in not one but TWO different scenes I could see the boom microphone hanging over the actors. That's just bad movie making ...

The flight of the Bumblebee...

My last day in Denver was a beauty! I opened my curtains to sunny skies and warm winds. Ahhh spring is in the air. Although I do have to say that the air here is pretty dry. I felt like a dried up old prune and was ready to go home to the Pacific NW where moisture droplets hang in the air like hummingbirds, kissing your face with dew.... but I digress.

Maria picked Josh and I up from the hotel and we hit City O' City again for brunch.
I love Josh. I don't get to see him as much as I'd like so thank goodness for Denver Veg Fest bringing us back together.
After brunch we dropped Josh off so he could catch his plane and Maria and I went to The Vance Kirkland Museum to visit her husband Eric at work and watch him give a tour.
The museum was amazing. ... being able to see where and how Vance did his paintings was really cool.
The dude hung from the ceiling to paint! That's dedication!!

Besides his paintings there is also on display over 3300+ works of 20th century decorative arts. So I was in freaking Mid-Century chair HEAVEN!!

This is one of my favs... wouldn't this look great on my balcony??
We left Eric to his work and hit up Ahimsa Footwear. What a lovely little store... I'm cursing myself now that I'm home that I didn't buy those boots I tried on. Dang it.
Then we headed back to the house where I FINALLY got to meet the famous Bumblebee.
We became fast friends.

My evening with The Wimmers was mellow and wonderful. Good food. Good friends and lots of dog hair. ha ha. Check out IANDI art movement. Both Maria and Eric are amazing artists. Maria made me the greatest little painting ... but sadly it wasn't dry enough for me to take home.

SO A BIG BIG THANK YOU again to Denver Veg Fest for putting on such a stellar event!

Thanks to everyone who came out!! Especially to Dan an Ashley for taking such good care of me.

I can't wait for Veg Fest 2009!!

I had a fretful nights sleep ....

...the night before the festival. I woke up just about every hour on the hour. I don't know if it was the excitement of the festival or the weirdness of sleeping away from my family. It's been about 7 months since the last time I was away from home for work and I miss my furry boys.

Thankfully the festival didn't start till 11am so I slept in as late as I possible ... threw on my eyelashes and joined everyone about 30 minutes late. I couldn't believe how many people had already arrived to the festival by 11:30am. This room was packed by the end of the day. It was amazing.
Josh from Herbivore Clothing was across from me so we made faces at each other all day.
I was so busy that I was only able to do 1 quick circuit around the room to check out all the vendors. I wish I had had more time because there was so many amazing tables to visit and I didn't get a chance to look at everything.
Tattered Cover Book Store had a table set up for me where I spent most of my day meeting and greeting and signing books.
My demo was at the end of the day and I was the last scheduled speaker on the roster, so I was worried that everyone would be tired by then and not show up. Boy was I wrong. Rather then do a cooking demo, we played Canada's Next Top Vegan and had a lot of fun. I had someone shoot the game show with my camera so I'll try and get it up on youtube in the next week or so.

Look at all those shiny happy people who came to see me! I love Denver!! Meeting and greeting with everyone before and after the demo was the highlight of my trip. I can't tell you guys how thrilling it is to meet readers who enjoy the books. I spend so much time ALONE in my kitchen writing, testing, re-testing ... so when I get to go out into the world and hear from you how the books have affected/helped/changed your lives, it's unbelievably fulfilling. So thank you to each and every one of you who came up and told me your story, shared a hug or just said hi. You made my weekend!!

Veg fair was over ... and we were pooped and SOOOO HUNGRY so we hit the streets to go to Watercourse Restaurant for some food.

And boy did we ever eat...

I was so full that I didn't have any dessert but that didn't stop my guests... :)
Cookie Dough Milkshake anyone??
Got back to my rock star room and hit the sheets and slept like a log. Tomorrow I get to hang out with a BUMBLEBEE!! Stay tuned...

Day one...

...started off pretty easy. My flight wasn't until noon so getting to the airport on time was easy, I didn't even have to wake up early. I'm not down with waking up early. The hardest part of my day was saying good-bye to Big Dog and Little Dog. I hate leaving my family, but up up and away I went. The flight was easy, I breezed through customs and I arrived safe and sound in Denver by 6pm.

Denver has one of the most interesting airports I've seen in a while... I thought maybe the plane was docking at Tennis Camp or something.

The airport inside was beauty...
Until I saw a Crocs kiosk. I almost turned around and went home...
But thank goodness I decided to stay. I had no idea Denver was so flat...
Got to The Ritz and BOY HOWDY did Denver Veg Fest ever take care of me. I felt like a p.i.m.p! My room had a front hallway and a cappuccino machine.
A massive bed that I needed a boost to get up onto...
Flat screen tv... swanky digs.
The bathroom was bigger then my bedroom at home... it was sick. HUGE tub, double sink, walk in shower and a dedicated toilet room with a phone. Swanky digs indeed.
I met up with some friends and we went to City O' City for dinner.
Had some yummy seitan wings.
Josh from Herbivore Clothing was unsure what he should get for dessert...
So we ordered A LOT!! We had Strawberry Shortcake, Tiramisu...
And the pièce de résistance was the Vegan Ho-Ho's! SHUT UP! So good...We had a goooooood time at City O' City.
Time for bed ... day 2 in Denver is going to be a long day.
