soy


Got my allergy test results back... The big ones are Soy, kidney beans and almonds. I think Goddess is trying to tell me to write a "soy free" cookbook...

The bright side is I can still have potatoes. *laugh*

Glad you finaly got the results back and can have potatoes, but OI, no kidney beans or soy milk, that's nasty!
I second the cookbook idea, had a recipe I was going to send you, will dig it out.......

I have a soy allergy too (although I can have small amounts like soy sauce). I'd LOVE a soy free cookbook! Not that I don't already love your other books. I also run a soy free (almost) vegetarian/vegan blog to try and help veggies who can't have soy, I found it hard to find resources when I first went veg.

Sorry you have to avoid so much but it's doable!

PS. Potatoes are YUMMY!

Oh boy, Sarah, I feel for you!! A couple years ago I got some allergy testing done. It showed I was "sensitive" to (deep breath)...all grains (there goes gluten and gliadin), all legumes (incl. soy), citrus, nightshade (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant...), lily (onion, garlic), brassica (broccoli, cauliflower), mustard (kale and and bunch of other greens) and too many other fruits and veggies to list. Buts were also out, as I've been allergic to them ever since I can remember. And get this: I apparently wasn;t sensitive to any kind of meat! Ha...ha...ha. I was living off of quinoa, sweet potatoes, pears, swiss chard, sunflower seed butter, hemp protein and avocado/butter lettuce/beet salad with salt. Not gross, but not appetizing after a few months either. FINALLY, almost 3 years later, I am able to eat everything except grains and soy, and sometimes legumes. Funny enough, though, I became a raw foodist! Go figure. Anyway, just wanted to wish you luck. It'll get easier.

I could live without soy and kidney beans but almonds? I'm not sure I could live without almonds. Sorry to hear about your crappy luck!

I can't have soy or any nuts, because of migraine. But I can have seeds. Sesame, sunflower and pumpkin are my faves.

Your cookbooks are practically soy free already, they have saved me. I'm so grateful that you pointed out rice milk as an alternative, don't know why I didn't think of it!

I would definitely buy your soy free cookbook.

In Athens, GA where I'm moving, there's a Thai restaurant that serves vegan mock meats called Suegai and Sueyu. It's the only place I've encountered these foods. If I'm remembering correctly, the Sueyu is made from seaweed. (suegai I think has some soy) Ever heard of those products?
