In Oct of 2003 just a few weeks before Gerry and I were to buy Tattoo Zoo our financing fell through and our dreams were dashed. We thought we weren't going to be able to buy the shop and like a knight in shiny armor our friend Jay came through as a private investor. We were so worried his kind offer would hurt our friendship or that we would never be able to pay him back... well yesterday we passed him our last cheque! We are now free of our debt to Jay ... but we will forever be indebted to him for his faith in us and for helping us out of a jam. Thank you so much Jay!! We love you!

To answer some of your questions...

Yes. It's an original French poster for Blue Velvet. :)
An old roommate I used to live with owed me money for rent or hydro and he gave it to me as collateral. Almost 20 years later ... I still have the poster. Hmmmmmm.

As for the Neti Pot I was totally scared to use it as well but after reading the instructions and watching Dr.Oz on Oprah it was a piece of cake. Just remember to use warm water and to have kleenex handy and to breath out of your mouth when you're pouring the water. Neti pot is the new Nyquil people! :)

Stupid summer cold...

At least my new beautiful handcrafted Vegan Mug from Vegan Dish arrived in time for me to drink echinacea tea out of.
I have also managed to NOT get a cold in my eyes like a normally do by rinsing out my nose a couple of times a day with a Neti Pot. So far... so good.

Back to the couch!

Something in or near my fridge smells bad ... but I can't find it. It's driving me crazy.

kitchen update

Gerry and I talked about it last night and we have enough in our budget to re-do the counters ... and the floor. I didn't want to do either until we decided how we were going to change the footprint... but I figured out a way to do the floors and counters on the cheap so that when we do reno in a year or two it won't kill me to rip it out.

SO... that totally changes what I should do for paint. I'm either going with the Charcoal boomerang or the Coral Boomerang for the counter.

I have these great fiberglass orange chairs that I want to use as kitchen chairs ... so I think either color will work. We also have left-over gray and white floor tiles from The Zoo ... so I'll put those in as well.

Hmmmmm... off to the hardware store to get some inspiration!

Ugh... my kitchen.

So the ceiling in the kitchen is hilarious. We tore down that false ceiling and was going to replace the lights with something simple ... only to find that the f**ktards who put in the lighting CUT the drywall to make room for the lights. Totally unnecessary and put crazy scary wires everywhere. They did such a bad job... and now we're going to have to dry-wall the ceiling. Ugh. For now ... we ignore. Ignoring the ceiling, I finally have everything put away and all my boxes unpacked... I now have to tackle the f-ugly.

Eventually I want to rip out EVERYTHING and put in an entirely new footprint. This kitchen is big and has lots of cupboards but the stove is waaaaay across on the other side of the room from where I prep and it's frustrating. Eventually I'd like to gut it and build my dream kitchen... but I'll have to sell a few more cookbooks before that can happen so in the mean time I need to just do what I can with paint. :)

First... the cupboards. Ugly. I bought new handles (sleek polished silver and modern) but what color should I paint?
The thing to remember is we have this terrible tile to contend with. Can you paint over tile?? This terrible countertop color...
and this terrible floor... (yes I know my toes are long... shut it).
So here's the left side of the kitchen... (excuse the mess).
Here's the right side of the kitchen... What freaking colors should I paint?? Ugh... so overwhelming. Any thoughts?

Fun

I went to visit my friend Wendy and her doggie Suzie yesterday. Fergus and Suzie are very much in love and wrestling, barking, chasing, butt shaking and face humping happens from about the time I arrive to the time I leave. Fergus was SO POOPED that he actually fell asleep in the car doggie-booster chair on the way home. He NEVER falls asleep in this thing... too funny.
I had fun last night at The Creepshow show... But man oh man I do not miss going out to the bar. I don't go to bar shows much anymore mostly because I don't drink and by the time it hits 12:30pm I can't stand all the drunky drunks. I don't mind if people drink but after a while it gets kind of old to be around when you're sober. *laugh*
Last night we said good -bye to our receptionist Nova who is on her way to Mexico. We gave her a box of Immodium ... I thought it might come in handy. And of course before Nova left she had to get the TZ tattoo of the flying money. She's so hardcore! Have a safe trip Nova!

In The Kitsch

Andrea from In The Kitsch popped by the shop the other day to drop off a present. Unfortunately I wasn't around but WHAT A CUTE PRESENT she left me!!

Andrea makes aprons and she left me a pink and leopard apron that is so sexy I want to wear it all the time. I asked Gerry if I could start rockin aprons as an accessory but he doesn't think I can work it.

Sometimes Gerry sounds like Miss Jay on ANTM.

Retirment home...

I was at the vet on Sat for a Fergus check-up and she mentioned that they are housing a cat who is in desperate need of a home.

I took a peek at her and she's lovely. She's older and needs a retirement home to live out her last few years. I would take her in a heartbeat but our new place only allows one animal. :(

what a day...

Yesterday was crazy.
I went to work and trained a new receptionist ... she was great.

Then I left her to man the front while I took the garbage to the dump. On my way back to downtown I stopped by my fav pet store to visit my friend Jodi. I ask if I can use the loo to have a quick pee and as I'm walking back out I see Jodi standing there white as a ghost with her eyes as big as saucers.

"what's wrong?"

Jodi points to the floor and it's covered in blood. A woman was looking at dog food cans when a bunch of them fell on her face and cut her across the bridge of her nose. AHHHHHH!! The poor woman needed to get stitches so we hustled her into the car with her family and they took her to the hospital. The pet store then became insanely busy so while Jodi rang people through I cleaned up blood. Fun...

I then came back downtown and hung out at the shop a little ... one of our clients lay down on our massage table and it broke. OH NO!! So we grabbed another table from a different studio and then THAT ONE BROKE!! The dude wasn't fat or heavy or anything... so funny. So I grabbed our last bed and luckily that one stayed intact until Jeremy was done tattooing.

So Gerry and I headed to Costco to return our broken beds. Luckily we still had our receipt and we were JUST under the due date for the 3 years warranty that came with the beds. We took back all 3 beds and then realized that they had new massage tables and they were on sale. So we ended up buy 4 new beds AND came home with some extra change in our pockets. Gotta love Costco for their fantastic return policy.

Our new beds have a lifetime warranty on them... so I hope these ones will last a little longer.

Then as we returned to our car ... I saw that another Smart had parked behind us. I thought it was so cute. I had no idea it was legal to park this way... I'm gonna do it all the time now!!

Game Show

I'm trying to think up names for my new "game show" demo that I'm going to do at the Veg Fair in Toronto.

I was going to call it "Let's Make A Meal" but I also have been thinking of "Wheel of Vegan" or "Vegan or No Vegan". Do you guys have any ideas for a name?? :)

A fun couple of days...

Gerry reversed the bathroom door and now it's like a whole new room. For whatever weird 1975 reason they put the door on so it swung against the vanity so when you went into the bathroom you felt totally squished. Now it swings against the bathtub and the room feels SO MUCH bigger... it's crazy how different it feels. Now I just need to do some renos in there. Ugh.

Fergus has found a new place to hang. He LOVES to chill under the bed... funny little dog.
I hung out with my friends little girl Trinity the other day only she's not so little anymore... in fact she's a grown up woman. I met Trin on her 1st birthday and knew her till she was about 10 or 11. It was super weird meeting her as an adult... but also wicked awesome. She's a rad girl and way taller than me. *laugh*Then I went to my P.O. Box and found a present from Auggie!! THANK YOU!! These vintage cookbooks are hilarious.


I'm trying to take the day off today and just chill...but I don't think it's going to happen.
