My bum-bum...

A few of you were upset that I mentioned I had a rectal exam.

"Seriously, I know this blog is about your life but who tells the world they had a rectal exam? There are some things no one needs to know."

But you know what my friends?? It's not something we should keep to ourselves. Rectal exams, pap smears, breast exams and the like are all important to maintaining our health. Don't be ashamed of your bum-bum little ones. It needs just as much attention from the doctor as the rest of you.

Silly people, I have no problem reading about your bumbum.
I'm a youngin and didn't even know that ladies needed rectal exams so I learned something!

I, for one, am glad you mentioned it. I think it's something more people should talk about. I have Crohn's Disease, so colonoscopies/rectal exams are a part of my life now and forever. It doesn't embarrass me; it's just a part of staying healthy. Clearly, anyone who was bothered by your post has their own body issues to work out.

I have gone through horrible times in my life because of ulcerative colitis, I've had to have a sigmoidoscopy so they could diagnose it. It wasn't fun but it was better than sitting around wondering why my body was going through what it was going through.
Knock on wood, but I have been symptome free ever since I became a strict vegan.

I think you should write exclusively about rectal exams, or at least a daily rectal word-o-wisdom.

Colonoscopies are the inspiration for millions of sci-fi films... seriously crazy shit going on in there (pardon the pun). I love all the gassy people on the ward after the fact! :-)

Pfft, that person needs to relax. If they don't want to read about it then they should have just skipped it. Like the other commenters have said, I think it's something that does need to be brought to light. I love the new colon cancer commercials I've seen lately that has a bum blushing. Nothing to be embarASSed about. :)

I enjoyed the rectum post. I even read it to a friend over the phone and we had a good laugh. Not talking about things always seems to be the beginning of all sorts of trouble. Talk about whatever parts of yourself you want!

Case in point: Your story reminded me I'm overdue for my cookie-care appointment. I'm calling my gynie this week. So thank you for talking about your bum-bum.

Had to have a sigmoidoscopy myself last year. What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, viewing your own colon on a TV screen.

A nice guy calling himself Blu-Tone wrote about his own experience here... I have rarely if ever laughed so much...

yep, i'm a tummy troubles type too (go alliteration!) and i think it's fabulous that you talk about this kind of stuff--helps desensitize all the squeamish people out there so that we don't have to feel like we have to hide and keep this stuff a secret!
