Well ... my little big city of Victoria has just announced a change. We now have 10 digit dialing. WHAT?? So now the tattoo shop is 250-361-1952. All those extra numbers. Harumph.

In the town where I grew up, we could dial with 5 digit numbers. For example, to dial 594-7889, we would just have to dial 4-7889. This worked for outlying towns, too. We also had a party line. This was in the 80s-90s. Anyhoo, we were all saddened the day we had to dial the whole number. Ooh, and I just remember the operator would ask for our number before connecting us on long distance calls. Was this normal?

I know, it totally freaked me out when the pre-recorded message chastised me for only using 7 digits.
We've had 10 digit dialing here for years now. At first it was a pain, but now we're all used to it. It's not so bad Sarah. Really.
I remember when we only had to use 4 digits(in Winter Harbour), but ya' as of yesterday here in Port Hardy we're a ten digit town also.
we just turn to 10 digit in quebec a couple of month ago. it sucks.
