Pretty

Whenever I watch Pretty In Pink I usually skip the ending because it makes me so furious. I mean... why would Andie pick Blaine over Duckie? It makes no sense...

And another thing. When Iona starts dressing like a "normal person" because she wants a relationship with a man... the feminist in me wants to ring John Hughes's neck.

Thoughts??

I have the biggest crush on Duckie. I also don't know why she would pick Blaine over Duckie...come on NOW!

There are lots of movies that I only like to watch the start of because the end makes me sad.

Originally, Andie and Duckie DO end up together. According to "Pop-Up Video" -- or a similar TV show -- Molly Ringwald wanted it to end that way.

... And by "that way", I mean the way that nobody likes.

Well, Andie's a kid still, and though I was irked by the ending I could forgive her fictional self. But the Annie Potts character?! I had such a crush on her, and then she... she... sells OUT like that! I'm still outraged all these years later!

I totally agree with you! I love Duckie. If I had the choice, I definitely would have gone with him. But I love the underdog.

Also, I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. And to thank you for everything you do-- you brighten my day with your words and wit and your beautiful books. Take care of yourself. And peace to you and yours during this time.

in my 13 year old mind, it meant that Duckie was free for me :) And, yeah, Iona selling out for the yuppy man - there's no forgiving that.

I read the book soon after the movie came out. Same plot, but different ending - Andie does choose Duckie. It's out of print, but half.com has a few copies for sale:

So the question becomes...which came first? The book or the movie?

Ah yes, THANK YOU!!! I was already a serious, moody university student when this film came out, so I didn't see it at the time, but I did catch on TV years and years later......and all that stuff still depressed the hell out of me!

Duckie, definitely. It drove me mad that she started dressing "normal" too; and look at "The Breakfast Club". Same thing.

While I do agree with everyone that it's complete BS that Andie chose Blaine over Duckie, I have to add this: James Spader is HOTT in this movie. That's neither here nor there, but it is a fact.
